Question for You

Blog readers, here is an ethics question for you. Is there anything wrong with continuing to meet with the Jehovah's Witnesses, going to their house for dinner, accept rides etc. when we have not one inclination to be converted, we are just curious and enjoy hanging out with them? I mean I am pretty sure they have come to like us somewhat but what primarily motivates them is the drive to convert us and I know Jehovah's Witnesses are not encouraged to hang out with unbeleavers other than to convert them and if they have to for work and stuff. We practically got job offers after going to dinner with them, well they asked if we had driver's licences and would have offered if we had.

  1. I think you should tell them that you'll never convert, but enjoy hanging out with them, and see what they say.

  2. Wait till they ask you to convert, and then say no. If that truly is their goal, they ought to be discerning enough to know whether they're barking up the wrong tree or not.

  4. You must have too calvinistic inclinations - even if it would be, in some absolute scale, somewhat wrong (which I doubt), you would be pardoned anyway, if there is anyone to pardon (a liberal lutheran perspective this)... More seriously speaking, it's surely no crime to have human contact and social interaction: who knows, maybe Jehova's witnessism is working its magic all the while in you, unconsciously! You might get converted and then it's surely ok.

  5. Taylor, I already told them that religious tourism was my hobby but I could remind them of this.
Mr. sheepandgoats thank you for your input. Your sugestion is appealing to my Lazy nature. :)
    Doreen, thanks for the info.
Slender dude, Calvinistic, no absolutely not. I am sure Calvinists, other than the Mars Hill folk, are fine but I do not beleave would not be among the elect. The only hope for me would be forgivenes offered to all, cause I am way too big of a screw up for anyone to believe for a second I was among the elect. Besides their doctorine conflicts with my understanding of free will way too much.

    1. It is the Sidney Carton solution, presented in "Tale of Two Cities," Book 3, Chapter 13. I always thought it made a lot of sense. (expounded upon in my return link)

I knew I'd seen this blog somewhere. Yours is good writing.

    2. I will have to look up that part of the book because I never got that far because, well, it was not my kettle of fish.

    1. That would definately be the wet dream of every evangelical. I do share my faith with them and if they think the grass is greener on the otherside they are welcome over but taking into account they have been Jehowah's Witnesses their entire lives and they would lose a lot, including their families which are the most important thing to them like most people that age they have very little incentive and would lose a lot.
